About Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) is Rwanda's flagship destination and one of the world's premier gorilla trekking locations. The park encompasses 160 square kilometers of pristine mountain rainforest in the Virunga Mountains, home to about one-third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas.
The park consists of five volcanic peaks: Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo, creating a dramatic backdrop for wildlife encounters. Beyond gorillas, the park is home to golden monkeys, over 200 bird species, and diverse flora.
This is where Dian Fossey conducted her groundbreaking gorilla research, and visitors can trek to her tomb and the former Karisoke Research Center.
